Happy Easter!

Happy Easter fellow readers! I cannot wait for the long four day weekend after a long week working in sales at the end of first quarter. It will be nice to see my family, friends and remember the true meaning of Easter. This weekend is about remembering a royal sacrifice for humanity so I thought it would be appropriate to have a "purple" design theme. Purple is the color for royalties.
Have a safe and HAPPY EASTER!!

It doesn't matter if you are "black or white"

Hi Bloggers,
My first song that I can remember hearing on the radio was "Black or White" by Michael Jackson (released in 1991). At the time I would have been in year 1 at school. I can still remember my old "boom-box" in my tiny room playing the song, the beat was what got me dancing up on my feet. The lyrics about equality made my soul sing and finally what really resonated from the song was the fact that I am a mixed race baby(half white and half black). My feet danced, my soul sang and as I closed my eyes my bedroom became my very own concert. This week my blog is dedicated to everything that is "black and white".  I had the privilege last week to help decorate the "guest lounge" at church for our annual "Synergy Conference" (http://synergyconference.com.au). I had so much fun working with the church staff and volunteers before, during and after the conference. Attached below are some pictures of the conference and the room I decorated. It was so nice hearing from the guests that the room was a place which was relaxing, fun and fresh. A cute idea to create atmosphere is playing great music, delicious food and a beautiful smelling candle (my lovely friend Elyse bought a glasshouse candle "Montego Bay" which was devine). All these elements created a aesthetically pleasing space for guests. Thanks for reading my blog  -  Luv Sarina xx

How to be "lighter" this year :-)

Hi lovelies,
Have you ever walked into a room and noticed the ambient atmosphere created by one lamp or some lovely candles. It is amazing the change that can be made by a carefully placed light source. I know from personal experience the lighting in a Kmart change room is not really flattering.  I am more likely to buy clothes when the lights are dimmer or strategically used to bring out the "good curves". In the same way people are more likely to feel more "at home" or comfortable when they are under great lighting. Hope you like some smart and quirky light ideas below. Thanks for following my blog!! Re-use your cheese grater!!

Points of Light ~ Say cheese — graters, that is. Salvaged shredders make a lovely table display with the illumination of votive candles twinkling through. Nab an assortment of round and classic box graters from flea markets. Then group on a tray with fall flowers or leaves for a seasonal accent. To be safest, use LED lights instead of candles. This setting is sort of industrial chic, I like the fact that it's very rough looking, yet sorta polished in it's own unique way! I also like the light fixture, it reminds me of a pine cone! :)

Holidays are over! Oh deer! :-)

Hello awesome people!
This week it was back to work and wow what a change two weeks holidays can make. Over the break I felt rested and recharged and even started this blog. I am hoping I can keep this up and people actually read my blog. If you are still reading - thank you! I have to confess...I'm not the best speller either, so please forgive me if you are one of those spelling & grammar fanatics. I work in the IT industry so spelling isn't my number one forte :-).  So after a full days work I have come home feeling a little tired but charged up for another blog. I chose a home decor blog because no matter what finances you have you can still have a pretty cool place. You can get some really unique pieces from op shops OR you can go crazy and splurge on a beautiful piece of timeless furniture or piece of art. Perhaps, even something that your grand-kids will love (I say this as I am sitting on my parents leather recliner chair under a large vintage lamp which was my mothers great grandmothers). Its so vintage that the lamps feet are actually shaped as little "fox feet" - cute but kinda weird at the same time. Talking about "animals" in home design, I do however like the idea of using "deer" shapes and patterns at home. I like how deer and moose shapes create a nostalgic and a funky atmosphere (perhaps I watched Bambi too many times as a kid). I have attached below some deer and moose ideas which hopefully you might like.
P.S.  I personally like artificial deer in design and not real deer...because they are super cute and want them to be in the wild rather then on my wall. If you would like to subscribe to my posts so they go to your email, please click on the subscribe button on the bottom of my blog.

Thank you my "deer" for reading my blog :-)  xxx

My first blog on home decor : New Year = New Colour xx

Hi lovely readers my name is Sarina Martin. Thank you for reading my brand new blog on home decor.  I have decided for the New Year of 2013, that I should do something NEW. I have always loved home decoration and design. As it is a fresh new year, I thought it be a great time to start something new & something that I am very passionate about.

I love love love (yes that is 3 x love) mustard at the moment. Mustard is a colour that is perhaps overlooked when it comes to home decor. However, it is a very luxurious colour that can be paired easily with neutrals and also dark colours. A black lounge chair with a mustard throw pillow would look fabulous! Hope you are inspired by some of the home decor pictures below. Its a new year, why not a new colour!
